Mangamete, Whirinaki Forest Park
This gorgeous Department of Conservation campsite is set in the native forest, next to a picturesque stream and waterfall. Easily accessible campsite next to the Whirinaki River. The forest includes rimu and totara trees. Fish for trout, swim in the river or hunt. There are some wheelchair facilities, including wooden platforms which enable users to get out over the river and assist with fishing.
Sites: 12. Fee: $6 per site. Barbeque and toilet facilities available.
Getting there: Follow Te Whaiti Rd, (formerly SH38) from Murupara for 19km to Minginui Rd. The turn off to camp is 5km on right.
