Whakatane Library & Exhibition Centre

The community’s arts and culture hub, Te Kōputu a Te Whanga a Toi, opened in June 2012. The centre hosts the Horizon Energy Library, and Whakatāne District Museum and three gallery spaces.

The Horizon Energy Library offers self-checkout, after-hours returns, comfortable places for reading and research and interactive opportunities for young people.
 
The Centre’s Museum display offers engaging experiences with stories and taonga (treasures) of the Whakatāne District.

Current Exhibitions
Renowned landscape artist Jonathan White will present selected and new works in the Opus Gallery, while examples of raranga (woven art forms) from Te Whare Wananga o Aotearoa will show in the Whakatāne Community Board Gallery. 

The Sheaff Family Gallery will host a vibrant collection of illustrations by Gavin Bishop, Robyn Kahukiwa and Murray Grimsdale – entitled Wairua, Tikanga in Children’s Books.  All three exhibitions will run until 20 January, when they close in preparation for the 2013 Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award for painting and drawing, which will be displayed across three of the four Te Kōputu galleries.
