This beachfront camping ground between Whakatane and Tauranga is a wonderful spot to enjoy swimming and beach fishing The campground is right on the beach and sheltered from southerly winds by pohutukawa-clad white cliffs. There are two toilet blocks complete with coin operated showers. Please be sure to conserve water where ever possible. No dogs allowed.
Tariff is $15/site (up to 2 adults and 2 children under 15yrs) and $5/night each extra adult, $1/night each extra child. Maximum stay 14 consecutive days. No bookings taken - first come, first served and caretakers are onsite.
The Department of Conservation manages over 200 camping areas on conservation land throughout New Zealand. The Whakatane District has 3 easily accessible camping grounds in the Te Urewera National Park that are an ideal base for exploring the great outdoors. Activities such as swimming, fishing, walking, picnics and bird watching are usually not far away. Conservation campsites offer a range of services and facilities but are generally basic so for your own comfort you need to be self-sufficient. If leaving your camping site or car unattended keep all valuables locked away and out of site. The following 3 sites operate on a self-registration basis. Deposit the appropriate fee in an envelope and place it in the box at the registration stand. Place your receipt section on your vehicle of tent. No dogs are permitted in the park. Lake Tarawera Outlet
A picturesque camping ground near Lake Tarawera. Pick your site and report to the Camp Manager. $5 per person per night. Water and toilet facilities available. Pick up an access permit from the Kawerau Information Centre.

This gorgeous campsite is set in the native forest, next to a picturesque stream and waterfall. Barbeque and toilet facilities available.

Caravan Hire
4 and 5 metre vans for holidays, events or weekends away in the sunny Whakatane District. Clean, well presented vans. Sleep 1 to 6 people. Awning also available. Self contained, you only need to provide bedding and towels. (These can be hired if required). The vans can be towed and set up for you at Ohope Top 10 Holiday Park, Awakeri Hot Springs Holiday Park, Whakatane Holiday Park, or a private address. Long term hire also available.
