Eastern Bay of Plenty Development Board

Whakatane District Council set up the Eastern Bay of Plenty Development Board in 1999. The Board are not a separate entity from council but have been given the responsibility for economic development, marketing and visitor services in the Whakatane District. The Board have a discretionary budget of $150,000. Other activities such as the Enterprise Training Programme are delivered under contract with funding from central government.

Board members are all experienced business people with a passion to grow the region. They contribute their time on a voluntary basis and meet six weekly. The staff who report to the Board are all council employees.
