The Whakatane Racing Club's return to summer racing has been very successful, with crowds over 10,000 gathering to experience a country race meeting and all the entertainment that goes with it. Racing starts at midday and there are over 10 races.

There's plenty of family fun as the children are well catered for with entertainers, miniature pony rides, face painting and a bouncy castle. Of course 'fashion in the field' is an essential for every race day, so dress in your best, as there are prizes to be won. A jazz trio and music will be playing throughout the day. Te Teko Racecourse is a great facility for this type of meeting with plenty of large shady trees and space for the kids to run around, leaving mum and dad time to try their luck with the horses.

Community involvement in the event is encouraged, with many groups such as the Lions, fire brigades and schools using the event to fundraise. Business support by way of sponsorship and the large marquees on the day to cater for clients and friends have been a great success.
