Summercross

The National Championship Summercross is held at Awakaponga each year, where entrants compete for the Title of the New Zealand Dirt Bike Federation Champions, making it one of the most important meets in New Zealand.  The 2007 event will see NZ international Josh Coppins attend the event.

The actions starts on 29th December with racing for Juniors, Mini's, Senior Support, Veterans 35 years+ and Freestyle MX.  On the 30th December features the National classes, Expert classes, Women's and veterans 40 yrs, Youth under 21 years and the Vintage and Classic feature races.

Most of New Zealand's MX elite race to battle for the National Titles and some of Europe's Grand Prix stars make the trip down under to compete in this world-class event. The event also features an invitation race, a classic vintage motocross and demonstration racing from the Suzuki stunt riders. The top manufacturers' teams also enter every year.

Spectators will be well catered for, as the Awakaponga circuit is one of the best MX viewing circuits in the country. It is situated on Braemar Road between SH 30 & SH 2, approx 20 mins from Whakatane and 40 min from Rotorua and Tauranga.
