Tuna tournament

The Whakatane Sportfishing Club runs one of the biggest fishing tournaments in New Zealand, with a prize pool of over $120,000. Running for over 16 years, the tournament is a highlight of the national sport fishing calendar and attracts up to 600 anglers from all over New Zealand who catch tuna, marlin, shark and kingfish. Anglers and divers enjoy the superb fishing grounds around White Island and the Ranfurly Banks. Winning fishermen typically catch a tuna of over 65kg!
