Whakatane Visitor Information Centre

Visit the friendly team at the Whakatane Information Centre. Let us make all your bookings for accommodation and activities during your stay – at no extra cost. We supply information and brochures on what to see and do during your visit and are booking agents for Intercity Coachlines, Tranz Rail and Ferries. We have a wide range of maps available from local walking tracks to road maps. Opening hours: December-February Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, Sat/Sun 9am-5pm.  March - November Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat/Sun 10am-4pm.  All Public Holidays 10am-4pm

Whakatane District Library

The Council supports the educational, informative, leisure and community value of public libraries. The libraries provide a collection of print, audio, visual, full text online databases and internet access. Libraries are located in Whakatane, Murupara, Edgecumbe and Ohope. The Whakatane Library runs school holiday programmes and events throughout the year.

Whakatane Museum and Gallery

The museum displays items from the local environment, pre and post European Maori artefacts and other historical items.   The Museum has an important collection of Taonga Maori from local tribes tracing their descent from the Mataatua Waka. The Museum is also Trustee of the Kohika Collection. Displays also include local natural history and European items. The gallery has ever-changing exhibitions of local and national artists. Open 7 days. Weekdays: 10am - 4.30pm. Weekends/public holidays: 11am to 3pm.

Whakatane District Aquatic Centre

 This exciting facility includes 2 spa pools, a hydro-slide, 25m indoor heated pool, a 33m heated outdoor pool (September to April), a learners/beach pool and the Leisure Club Gym. Under eight year old children must be accompanied by someone 16 years or older. Come and visit us today!
