Did You Know?

That’s space!

Ohope beach is around 11km long - at an average of perhaps 50m wide that's 550,000 square metres of sand.

Strike!

Many fishing world records have been set In these warm Pacific Ocean waters.

Whoooom-whoooom!

Some nights, kiwi can be heard as they roam the hills, under 10km from Whakatane town centre.

Movie time!

Opotiki is just 45 minutes’ drive from Whakatane. Check out the town's historic De Luxe Theatre and Shalfoon & Francis stores, which have been restored to their early-20th century grandeur. More: www.opotikinz.com

What a scorcher!

In 2010, Whakatane was the sunniest spot in the whole of New Zealand!  Whakatane scores the country’s hottest temperature around 55 days a year. Summer daytime temperatures generally reach 20-25°C.
