Whirinaki - Mountain Biking

Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne

Mountain Biking

Riding in Whirinaki Forest is like travelling back in time. Giant trees, ancient and moss-laden, tower overhead, soaring up to 65m (215ft) into the sky. This information is shared, with permission, from the Department of Conversation (DOC)

Local iwi (tribe) Ngāti Whare is the active kaitiaki (guardian) of the park working with the Department of Conservation (DOC) to protect the natural, cultural, and historic resources for the benefit of future generations...
Whirinaki Forest Mountain Bike Track closed. The track is closed until further notice. It has been assessed by DOC and is unsafe for visitors to use due to damage caused by recent severe weather. There are many fallen trees making the track unrideable. Check the DOC website for updates here.

Moerangi Track

This shared-use track includes an overnight stop at an historic hut and amazing views from the top of the Moerangi saddle (955 m). Listen for the piercing calls of kiwi at night.
