Te Pō Whakangahau - Original Music Open Mic

This night sets out to support our community of songwriters in Whakatāne. Original music is the core of the night, with the aid of originalised covers for some familiarity for the audience.

Join us and see a variety of different solo, duo and group acts performing in various styles and genres. This particular open mic is set in a very intimate space, allowing listeners to really grasp the talent that stands before them.

Doors open at 5:30pm, with the event starting around 6pm till late.

This event is Koha entry as this is a non-profit event which is hosted by individuals with a passion for 'Projecting the Sound of Whakatāne'. There will be a Koha box upon entry and a QR Code with a bank account should you wish to donate towards this amazing space.

Entry to the venue is via the front door off McAlister Street. You will see a ‘Sound Project’ sign on the door and a cone outside. Follow the music to the front door of the building and you will be greeted by one of our members.

There will also be a sign in sheet on arrival to let us know you are here. There is a green room through the back of the performance area past the DJ booth in the ‘Listening Lounge’. Please bring your instruments through to this area. We will let you know when to head to the green room to tune up and grab your instruments. Please wait until the performer before you has vacated the stage with all of their gear before starting to setup. You will have stage hands to help you get on and off.
