A self-guided scavenger hunt in Whakatāne, New Zealand, the Kiwi Capital of the World!  Find the ten life-like, life‑size bronze kiwi statues which wander right through the heart of Whakatāne.

Do you have what it takes to be a kiwi kaitiaki? Find all ten kiwi wandering through our town!

You can pick up a brochure with the clues from our team at the i-SITE or Te Kōputu a Te Whanga a Toi - Library and Exhibition Centre, or download the brochure before you head off - (PDF, 654 KB).

Things to know before you go...

  • The walking trail is about 1.6km (approx. 1 hour return)
  • The walk starts at Te Kōputu a Te Whanga a Toi - Library and Exhibition Centre and finishes at Wairaka Centennial Park
  • There are 10 beautiful bronze kiwi to find! 
  • Keep safe near roads and always look before crossing!

Can you find all 10 North Island brown kiwi? Manaia, Two Toes, Ahi, Miro, Big Al, Ōhope, Waewae, Kaputerangi, Pea, and Te Hau are out there waiting for you!
