In the early morning hours, watch sacred mists roll across the lake. As the sun drops below the horizon in the afternoon, the skies are painted with brilliant oranges, pinks, reds and purples – an artist’s palate! A place to sit and watch the natural world go by, or indulge in a fun filled weekend getaway with friends and family.

This accommodation option is suitable for groups of friends, families or special interest groups, such as mountain bikers, hunters and fisher-people and their partners.

Te Kura Whare is New Zealand’s first living building. It embodies Tūhoe and Tūhoetana values of respect for nature and whenua, inspired by the unity of people.

Te Papaka pa is rich in Ngāti Awa history. From the summit, a magnificent panorama landward and seaward avails. Nowadays the site is no longer inhabited but is open to sightseers.  

Filled with fresh water from deep underground, it’s the perfect spot for a family picnic and refreshing swim on a hot summer day.
