Sailing on Ohiwa Harbour

Sailing

Picture this: gliding across the pristine harbour waters, wind in your hair and fresh sea air on your face.  Sailing is the perfect way to explore our glorious Ōhiwa Harbour, the jewel in the crown of the Whakatāne District.

Port Ōhope wharf is home to the Port Ōhope Yacht Club, which provides the opportunity to learn to sail and then sail socially or competitively. The sailing season runs from September to the first weekend in June with sailing on Sundays, weather permitting. Visitors are welcome, with learn to sail offered for beginners annually.

The club Lasers and Optimists can be hired on organised club days, and regattas are hosted twice a year in February and June. Club facilities are available for hire to the community for weddings, meetings and more.
