Kevin Hayter has been a chef all his life. When he moved to Whakatāne he was working at another cafe and drove past The Bean every morning wishing he could buy it. His dreams came true!!

At The Bean Cafe and Roastery, Kevin says it's all about the coffee! They serve delicious coffee and simple food.

It's the little things that make the difference according to Kevin. He says he is enjoying roasting and serving coffee and getting to know his customers. He says The Bean is like Cheers - 'where everyone knows your name'.
