The Wagon - The Strand, Whakatāne

Alex & Quinn from The Wagon

Whakatane's gourmet burger bar on The Strand offers comfort food at it's finest. To new owners Alex and Quinn, it's just a cozy spot to relax with good food. Story originally published by EPIC Whakatāne

Self-confessed foodies, they both grew up in Whakatane but have spent the last eight years in Auckland, with Alex working for renowned fashion house, Augustine.  "We always knew we wanted to move back eventually, we just needed the right reason.  The Wagon is what brought us home."

They're loving being close to family and friends again after their stint away and are passionate about the local community.  "We want to offer people good food, good drinks, and a cozy chill vibe."

It seems to be working.  Due to customer demand they've recently extended their hours to include a lunch service and have started expanding their menu - including options for a bunless burger and chicken wings.  While the new items are proving popular, Alex says their "peoples' choice" is still The Flying Beast - a chicken and bacon cheeseburger with salad, aioli and BBQ sauce served on brioche.

The Wagon is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm to 8pm, with late nights on Friday and Saturday.  Check out their Instagram feed for updates.
