Ōhope Beach

Ōhope Beach is just over the hill from Whakatāne, 6 km by road. In 2014 and 2019, Ōhope Beach was voted New Zealand’s 'Most Loved Beach' by AA Traveller, confirming its iconic holiday destination status.

The beach itself is an 11 km sweep of white sand, shelving gently into safe swimming waters. West End, long a favourite with surfers, is the main access point to Ōtarawairere Beach, one of New Zealand's coastal gems.

Ōhope Beach is a residential area, (population 3,180) offering superb sea and harbour views and a wide choice of attractive properties. Ōhope village features a cluster of cafes and boutique shops and a family playground.

Ōhiwa Harbour and Port Ōhope’s offers superb recreational opportunities, including fishing, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and water skiing. The harbour also provides sheltered inland waters, rich mudflats and sandbanks are home to many migratory bird species.
