Landmarks for the Landless

  -

Group exhibition by the below artists:
Chris Harvey, Janine Williams, Melanie Tangaere Baldwin, Ngahina Hohaia, Ngaroma Riley, Paerau Corneal, Tessa Harris, Zena Elliott

Landmarks for the Landless delves into the significance of pouwhenua, symbolic markers of ancestral ties and cultural heritage in Aotearoa. These carved posts represent a connection to the land and ancestors, embodying sovereignty and traditional mapping practices. Today, they serve as reminders of lost connections to ancestral lands while celebrating cultural identity. The artists in the exhibition explore pouwhenua's influence on identity and place, addressing contemporary issues like landlessness and urban migration. Through their diverse perspectives, they foster kinship and authenticity, reflecting on shared experiences and the desire to revive ancestral memories.
