Scattergun: After the death of Rūamoko

Too late, you missed it

Agnes is existential. She is reflecting on her life, following the death of her little brother, Rūaumoko, at a memorial on the fifth anniversary of his passing. She takes us on a nocturnal journey through the streets of her city and the sinews and synapses of her internal world.

Surfing through themes of displacement, grief, and the healing power of home, ScatterGun: After The Death of Rūaumoko explores the profound connection between the human body and te whenua ūkaipō, in ScatterGun's case: te ngāhere ō Te Urewera.

ScatterGun is a solo performance weaving together poetry, the voices of whānau from Tūhoe, movement and sound. Performer Ana Chaya Scotney (Ngai Tūhoe,) embodies Agnes, and the significant others she encounters, on her journey.

Join the creative team as we bring this joyful and sincere performance to Whakatāne, to share it with the whānau whose words have both inspired and become a part of this work.
