The diverse range of roles across hospital, community, and primary care settings are integral to delivering comprehensive health services to a population of approximately 55,000 residents in the region. 

Community and Primary Care Roles 

Beyond the hospital setting, healthcare professionals contribute to community well-being through various roles:

  • Mental Health and Addictions: Clinicians, including Registered Mental Health Professionals and Crisis Team Members, provide essential services in all areas of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.  

  • Support Workers: Community Support Workers assist individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions to live independently. 

  • Dental Services: Dental Assistants and Receptionists play crucial roles in oral health care delivery. 

Hospital-Based Roles 

Whakatāne Hospital, managed by Te Whatu Ora – Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty, is a central hub for secondary healthcare services in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Key hospital-based roles include: 

  • Medical Staff: Emergency Medicine Physicians, General Medicine Physicians, Surgical Registrars, and House Officers/Senior House Officers are vital for acute and specialised care. (Te Whatu Ora Careers
